Organizational Competency in Event Management Among Student Leaders in Higher Education Institution

This study examined the organizational competency of University of Cebu student leaders in event management and implementation across four core dimensions: planning and preparation, resource management, activity or program implementation, and evaluation and feedback. Using a descriptive–correlational research design, data were gathered from the student leaders through a researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using weighted means, standard deviations, and Chi-square tests. The results showed that respondents demonstrated a high level of competency in all four dimensions, with particularly strong performance in maintaining collaborative environments, aligning activities with institutional goals, and documenting lessons learned for future events. These findings indicate that the student leaders consistently apply systematic and organized approaches in managing university-wide activities. Further analysis revealed that age, sex, college enrolled, and year level were not significantly related to organizational competency, while organizational position showed a moderate significant relationship with resource management and evaluation and feedback. This suggests that leadership roles are more closely associated with competencies that involve decision-making, accountability, and performance assessment. Despite the high level of competency, student leaders reported recurring challenges related to scheduling conflicts, budget limitations, and access to resources. Overall, the study highlights the strong capacity of UC student leaders to manage and implement events effectively, while underscoring the need for institutional support mechanisms to address operational constraints and further enhance leadership practice.
